Newport Hospital's A Salute to Health

Newport Hospital’s ‘A Salute to Health’ raises $1 million

After a two-year hiatus, Newport Hospital’s donor community came together on July 6 at Marble House mansion to support the hospital’s most-crucial funding needs. Event co-chairs Holly M. Bannister, MD, Dory Hamilton Benson, Norey Dotterer Cullen, Kimberly Palmer, Isabelle Dana Ridall, Maura Smith, and Mary van Pelt designed a beautiful evening that raised $1 million in support of patient care and lifesaving programs while honoring the inspiring life work of longtime friend and ambassador, David Gordon.

Gratitude story - Nhyazia

The Power of Gratitude: Nhyazia’s Story

For Nhyazia-Renee Lovely, going to Newport Hospital to deliver her first child was a “positive and comforting” experience. But mostly because she found the staff at the Noreen Stonor Drexel Birthing Center at Newport Hospital to be kind, compassionate, and highly competent in every way.

Newport Hospital: Celebrating 150 Years

Newport Hospital was founded in 1873 by our Newport County community members who saw a need to bring high-quality, lifesaving health care to their neighborhood. Today, 150 years later, our small cottage hospital has grown into a 129-bed award-winning facility offering a wide range of medical services to the people of Newport County and beyond. Throughout this 150th year, we invite you to join us in a series of events to honor the role of Newport Hospital in our community and celebrate the generations of supporters, providers, and friends who have made it possible to access top-notch health care close to home.

Varicose Veins: Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

A Lifespan blog by Jason P. Vachon, MD

Varicose veins are generally the result of abnormal blood flow caused by faulty valves. The veins in the body bring blood from the tissues back to the heart and lungs to get oxygen. Blood can flow the wrong way in diseased veins. This is particularly true in the legs, where returning blood must fight gravity. The result is veins that are enlarged, painful, and unsightly. Varicose veins can develop and worsen as we age.
