Newport Hospital Becomes First in the U.S. to Benefit
from an Anouk Foundation Mural Project

Behavioral health patients at Newport Hospital will enjoy a more inviting environment thanks to a first-of-its kind art project. The hospital is the first United States institution to have the Anouk Foundation paint therapeutic murals on its walls. The Switzerland-based nonprofit works with a team of acclaimed artists who create specialized murals for facilities that include hospitals, homes for children, mental health centers, and migration centers.

Celebrating 150 Years of Care and Community

Founded and funded on philanthropy, Newport Hospital has been Delivering health with care to our community for generations. At the cusp of our sesquicentennial anniversary, we have much to celebrate. From our 5 Star CMS Award and fourth Magnet designation for nursing excellence, to our clinical program expansions and recruitment of new talent and upgrades in technology, Newport Hospital has emerged as a leader in health care for our region. We thank you, our most loyal donors and supporters, for helping to secure Newport Hospital’s future for the next 150th years and beyond.

We kicked off our 150th yearlong festivities with the return of our “A Salute to Health Summer Celebration.” More than 400 guests gathered under the tent to raise funds in support of the Norman Prince Spine Institute. Throughout the summer and fall, we participated in an array of family-friendly events, including the Newport International Boat Show, the Norman Bird Sanctuary’s Harvest Fair, and the Broadway Street. We look forward to continuing the celebrations with our community and staff over the next year.

Portsmouth Imaging Center Acquires
the Only Open MRI in Greater Newport County

Newport Hospital has added an open MRI machine to its suite of MRIs for imaging exams. Located at the hospital’s diagnostic imaging center at 69 Turnpike Avenue in Portsmouth, this machine is the first of its kind in the Lifespan Health System and the only open MRI in greater Newport County.

Practicing Gratitude at Newport Hospital: Robyn’s Story

Robyn Karp lived with back pain for 15 years. In her case, the culprit was spinal stenosis along with degenerative disc disease. The condition led to pressure on her nerves—and much discomfort, too. “I had epidurals and all kinds of steroid shots over the years to deal with it,” she explains. “But when the numbness got so bad that I lost feeling in my feet, I knew it was time for surgery.”
