‘WONDERFUL TRIBUTE’ – Area Police, Fire Departments Honor Newport Hospital Workers

Some hospital staff members started to slowly trickle outside Monday afternoon as the distant wailing of sirens grew louder and didn’t let up.

But it wasn’t tragedy or a crisis that conjured the rescue wagons, fire engines and police cruisers. Members of the Newport, Middletown, Portsmouth, Jamestown, Bristol, Tiverton and Little Compton police and fire departments, along with Rhode Island State Police, came to show their support and appreciation for Newport Hospital staff.

Friends of Newport Hospital raises funds for special projects designated by and specifically for Newport Hospital Foundation. Newport Hospital is an integral and coordinated part of Lifespan’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic. In March, in recognition of the impending crisis, Newport Hospital established an Emergency Preparedness Fund, “Our Healthcare Heroes” which supports the needs of Newport Hospital in this time of urgent need.

Newport Hospital’s A Salute to Health Cancelled

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented challenges to Newport Hospital, our community, and all those we serve. During this public health crisis, decisions that respect social distancing guidelines will help save lives. Unfortunately, we cannot predict the surge or length of the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, it is with the community’s safety in mind, that we made the very difficult decision to cancel this year’s signature event, A Salute to Health, originally scheduled for July 8, 2020 at New York Yacht Club Harbour Court.
