Lifespan Cardiovascular Institute

Newport Hospital is committed to providing you with preeminent cardiac care.

The Impact of Philanthropy. Through the generous support raised at the 2018 Newport Hospital Celebration, we have been able to expand the expertise and capabilities of the Cardiovascular Institute at Newport Hospital, by bringing the most advanced non-invasive and definitive testing available to diagnose coronary heart disease:

  • Cardio CT scanning, to detect coronary heart disease sooner and intervene earlier
  • CT Angiography, the most sensitive and specific test to evaluate chest pain, to be able to rule out coronary disease more definitively

These non-invasive diagnostic services are an important addition to an already robust cardiac program at Newport Hospital. For more information about cardiology services at Newport Hospital, please call 401-845-1201.

We are grateful to all the donors who helped us to expand the Cardiovascular Institute at Newport Hospital, and for helping us keep Newport County heart healthy.

Beyond the Building, The Campaign for Newport Hospital

The Emergency Department expansion is making great progress, and we are projecting a Fall 2019 completion. Thank you to all our donors who have stepped forward in support. Every donor and every gift has made a meaningful impact toward reaching our goal. We still need to raise an additional $742,391 to meet our $12.5M campaign goal for the ED expansion. If you have yet to make a gift, your help is still needed and appreciated. Thank you!

Call Loriana De Crescenzo, chief development officer at 401-845-1617 to learn more about how you can help support the emergency department expansion.

Access to Care: “It’s Why We’re Here”

Every year, Newport Hospital absorbs the cost of millions of dollars in charity care, subsidized health services, unreimbursed Medicaid costs, and free health programs to the community. Ensuring access to care is at the heart of the hospital’s commitment to Aquidneck Islanders.

“It’s why we’re here,” says Michael Dawson, Vice President of Finance for Newport Hospital. “Our mission is to serve members of the community, regardless of their ability to pay. Despite the perception that Newport is an affluent area, there are a lot of people here struggling to make ends meet.”

Newport Hospital's Intensive Care Uniti

ICU’s Specialized Care Saves Tiverton Man

Few stories convey the “intensive” part of intensive care like the experience of Bruce Taylor. When the 70-year-old Tiverton man was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Newport Hospital in November 2017, his legs were swollen, his breathing labored, and his thinking confused. For close to a month, his life hung in the balance as a battalion of clinicians worked to save him.

“I don’t remember much, but I know I almost died a few times,” says Bruce. “I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for the incredible team at Newport Hospital.”
