Hospital’s Rich Tradition of Philanthropy Celebrated at Annual Miriam People Dinner

Coming together to celebrate the rich tradition of philanthropy and generous community support of The Miriam Hospital, hospital President Arthur J. Sampson and Foundation Chair, Susan H. Kaplan, hosted 125 members of The Miriam People Society and their guests for this year’s Miriam People Dinner.

Community Events Support Programs and Research at The Miriam Hospital

Brown Football to Host 15th Annual Bench Press for Cancer, Supporting the Cancer Survivorship Program at The Miriam

On Monday, October 29th, Brown Football will host the 15th annual Bench Press for Cancer on the Main Green. The annual event was created in 2004 to help former team captain Lawrence Rubida ’05 and his family pay for the medical bills associated with his battle against Ewing’s Sarcoma. Read more

The 2018 Savit Golf Tournament

On Monday, September 17 the Savit family held their annual golf outing in honor of their late father and husband, Herbert W. Savit. Proceeds raised from this event, held at Quidnessett Country Club in North Kingstown, support ongoing research to find a cure for Myelofibrosis, a form of blood cancer. Dr. Peter Quesenberry and Dr. Laura Goldberg who are conducting the research were on hand to participate and share their progress with the guests during dinner.

The 2018 Irving Sigal Memorial Golf Tournament

On Monday, August 6th, golfers came out swinging at the beautiful Ledgemont Country Club in Seekonk, MA for the 2018 Irving Sigal Memorial Golf Tournament. Proceeds from this year’s tournament will allow The Miriam to purchase five new specialty exam beds for the cancer center, which will provide improved ease of access for our patients with physical limitations.

Bishop Hendricken High School Holds
“No Shave November” Fundraiser

Last fall, students at Bishop Hendricken High School participated in a “No Shave November” fundraiser. According to the event organizers, participating students contributed $20 each, allowing them to put away the razors for an entire month - a total departure from the school’s policy that young men are expected to arrive clean shaven and neatly dressed in their shirt and tie each day. The Miriam Hospital Receives $9.4M 
to Study Antibiotic Resistance

The Miriam Hospital has received a $9.4 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to establish the Center for Antimicrobial Resistance and Therapeutic Discovery to research "superbugs" and to look for potential new drugs.
