The Miriam’s Annual Meeting Honors
Suzanne Gilstein as 2018 Person of the Year

On October 18, more than 125 Miriam Hospital donors, friends, and supporters filled the Sopkin Auditorium when the hospital’s Foundation board of trustees hosted its 2018 annual meeting. In celebrating a stellar year at The Miriam while thanking a donor community whose generosity knows no bounds, hospital president Arthur Sampson highlighted some of the hospital’s most recent accomplishments.

Miriam Hospital Receives Prestigious Leapfrog Top Hospital Award for Second Year in a Row

For the second year in a row, The Miriam Hospital is the only hospital in Rhode Island to receive the prestigious Leapfrog Group’s Top Hospital Award. This award is given to the highest performing hospitals on the Leapfrog Hospital Survey who received a Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade of “A” in the most recent round of scoring. Top hospitals have better systems in place to prevent medical errors, lower infection rates, and other laudable qualities.

Dr. Josiah "Jody" Rich Elected to 2018 National Academy of Medicine

Dr. Jody Rich 

Josiah “Jody” Rich, MD, an infectious disease physician and director of the Center for Prisoner Health and Human Rights at The Miriam Hospital, has been elected to the 2018 class of the National Academy of Medicine.

Election to the independent body is regarded as one of the most prestigious in the fields of health and medicine, in part because its members offer expert analysis and advice to the U.S. government and other policymakers. Rich is one of 85 members inducted into this year’s class for “outstanding professional achievements and commitment to service.”

Exchange Program Brings Israelis to
The Miriam Hospital

A rich tradition continued this fall when a medical team from Emek Medical Center in Israel visited The Miriam Hospital as part of a professional and cultural exchange program that began in 2005.

The exchange program brings the Israelis to a hospital and its surrounding community that has deep and cherished Jewish roots. And it strengthens bonds that The Miriam has sought to develop with its sister hospital in Afula, in the Jezreel Valley of northern Israel.
