2015

The Miriam Hospital Receives Ninth Consecutive Stroke Care Award
The Miriam Hospital received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s "Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Gold-Plus Quality Achievement Award" and has achieved "The Target: Stroke Honor Roll" distinction for 2015. The Miriam, which treats over 300 stroke patients a year, received the awards for attaining targeted quality measures and ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate medical treatment based on nationally recognized, research-based guidelines.

The Miriam Hospital Named a Best Regional Hospital by U.S. News & World Report

Miriam's Cancer Care Recognized for Excellence
The Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC) of Rhode Island, The Miriam and Newport hospitals has received a three-year accreditation with commendation from the Commission on Cancer (CoC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons (ACoS). To earn this designation, the CCC had to meet or exceed 34 CoC quality care standards, agree to be evaluated every three years through a survey process and maintain levels of excellence in the delivery of comprehensive patient-centered care.

The Miriam Hospital Receives Highest Nursing Credential for Fifth Time
It's one of only four hospitals nationwide to achieve Magnet designation five times. The voluntary credentialing program for hospitals recognizes excellence in nursing and is the highest honor an organization can receive for professional nursing practice.

The Miriam Hospital Bariatric Surgery given Blue Distinction Center+
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island has awarded The Miriam Hospital a Blue Distinction Center+ (BDC) designation for bariatric surgery. The Center for Bariatric Surgery has been a Center of Excellence in Bariatric Surgery since 2011 and was reaccredited in 2014 by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP).

2014

Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Gold-Plus Quality Achievement Award 
The Miriam Hospital has received the Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Gold-Plus Quality Achievement Award for using American Heart Association/American Stroke Association quality improvement measures when treating stroke patients. The hospital has received the Gold or Gold Plus designation for stroke care every year since 2008.

Total Joint Center at The Miriam Hospital Awarded Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval
The Total Joint Center at The Miriam Hospital has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for its total knee and total hip replacement programs. The certification recognizes the Total Joint Center’s compliance with national standards for health care quality and safety in a disease-specific care set by The Joint Commission. It also acknowledges the center’s dedication to continuous compliance with The Joint Commission’s state-of-the-art standards.

The Miriam Hospital Named Top Regional Hospital by U.S. News and World Report 
The Miriam Hospital was named the top regional hospital by U.S. News and World Report for a second straight year.In addition The Miriam Hospital was recognized as high performing in eight medical specialties, including cancer, diabetes/endocrinology, gastroenterology and surgery, geriatrics, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, pulmonology and urology.

Blue Distinction Center for Knee and Hip Replacement
The Miriam Hospital was named a Blue Distinction Center in Knee and Hip Replacement by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Rhode Island. The Blue Distinction Centers for Specialty Care program is a national designation awarded to medical facilities that have demonstrated expertise in delivering quality specialty care.

Award-Winning Stroke Care
The Miriam Hospital received a 2013 Get With The Guidelines–Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart Association, recognizing the hospital’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care by ensuring that stroke patients receive treatment according to nationally accepted guidelines.

Environmental Partnership Award
The Miriam Hospital has received the Partner Recognition Award from Practice Greenhealth, a health care membership community that promotes efficiency and environmental stewardship while improving patient safety and care.

Outstanding Achievement Award from the Commission on Cancer
The Leonard and Adele R. Decof Family Comprehensive Cancer Center at The Miriam Hospital was presented with the 2012 Outstanding Achievement Award by the American College of Surgeons’ (ACS) Commission on Cancer (CoC). The Miriam Hospital is one of only 79 health care facilities in the country – and the only in Rhode Island – to receive this national honor based on excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients.

Award-Winning Care
The Miriam Hospital's Stroke Center received a 2012 Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award from the American Heart Association / American Stroke Association. This is the association's highest honor for stroke care.

National Stroke Center Certification

Outstanding Achievement Award from the Commission on Cancer
The Comprehensive Cancer Center at Rhode Island Hospital and The Leonard and Adele R. Decof Family Comprehensive Cancer Center at The Miriam Hospital have each earned the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons. Among only 90 programs nationwide to receive this honor, this award recognizes the significant commitment by medical staff, administration and staff at both hospitals to providing high-quality cancer care to their patients, as well as meeting and exceeding the standards set by the CoC.

Center of Excellence Designation
The Miriam Hospital was named an American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence. The designation recognizes surgical programs with a demonstrated track record of excellence in providing superior and comprehensive bariatric surgery care.

The Miriam Hospital was named an Blue Distinction Center for Bariatric Surgery by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Rhode Island. The Blue Distinction program recognizes facilities that meet objective, evidence-based thresholds for clinical quality, developed in collaboration with expert physicians and medical organizations.

AACVPR Program Certification
The Miriam Hospital pulmonary rehabilitation program has been awarded certification from the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). Certified AACVPR programs are recognized as leaders in the field of cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation because they offer the most advanced practices available.

2010

Magnet Hospital Designation
The Miriam Hospital has been recognized for overall nursing excellence with its fourth consecutive Magnet hospital designation. The American Nurses Credentialing Center's Magnet Recognition Program® is nursing's top honor and is one of the most prestigious distinctions an organization can receive for outstanding nursing care. The unanimous decision was based on The Miriam Hospital's continued adherence to rigorous national standards of nursing practice.

National Stroke Center Certification
